Mines is currently investigating mechanical properties of ceramics produced by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lithoz.com\/en\/additive-manufacturing\/lcm-technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.lithoz.com\/en\/additive-manufacturing\/lcm-technology&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1551644576493000&amp;usg=AFQjCNEV6q_RRqGsJjPOW-Bv_5LEY-0OVQ\"> lithography-based ceramic manufacturing (LCM)<\/a> with graduate student Sarah Sortedahl with the intent of exploring whether separate standards are needed for ceramic AM.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cThe mechanical properties of ceramics are highly sensitive to material or manufacturing flaws,\u201d said Professor Packard. \u201cWorking with Lithoz directly, and having a<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lithoz.com\/en\/our-products\/am-systems\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=http:\/\/www.lithoz.com\/en\/our-products\/am-systems&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1551644576493000&amp;usg=AFQjCNHtIWbn1klZzLp-sUGo1lxTI1Oa0A\"> CeraFab 7500<\/a> printer here at Mines, allows us to rapidly evaluate and optimize processes for achieving strength and reliability in AM ceramics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cCeramic additive manufacturing is particularly suited to aerospace and biomedical applications. The representation of these markets in ADAPT\u2019s membership makes Mines and ADAPT a natural partnership. This partnership allowed us to install one of our ceramic printers in a Mines lab. There, it is being used for research and courses focused on AM technology and design for AM,\u201d said Shawn Allan, VP of Lithoz America. \u201cWe are excited to see the student research projects that result from this new capability.
