Denver Escape Room Celebrates Anniversary with Nov. 13 Alzheimer’s Fundraiser

Make a break to a fun escape for a good cause

Northglenn, CO – When he set up one of the first escape room attractions in the Denver area, Brian Lacertosa had no idea it would be such a success. In its first year, Denver Escape Room earned Rookie Business of the Year and People’s Choice awards from the City of Northglenn. It has also spawned four new locations – two in Arizona and one each in California and Oregon. Lacertosa attributes the Denver Escape Room’s popularity to the great community of people who have enjoyed the mental challenge and change of pace offered by this growing attraction.

Denver Escape Room celebrates its first anniversary Friday, November 13, 2015. Although the party is free to attend, donations will be taken to fund a cause dear to the owner’s heart. Alzheimer’s disease affects over 5.1 million people worldwide, and for Lacertosa it has hit close to home, striking a dear family member.

In 2003, Lacertosa’s Uncle Rick was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s at the age of 50. The family was devastated by the news, but his aunt and uncle refused to let it be the end of their adventure. Lacertosa’s aunt and uncle spent the remaining time they had together travelling the world while Rick could still complete trips to places like Italy and Australia. Rick spent the last four years of his life in assisted living, where he passed away earlier this year.

Had it not been for his aunt’s appreciation of puzzles and adventure and her help in starting the Denver Escape Room, Lacertosa may not have seen his business come to fruition. One thing that makes the Denver Escape Room a regional destination is that it exercises participants’ minds, requiring them to flex their mental muscles to find their way out of a locked room.

Now, a year after its launch, Denver Escape Room is a popular regional spot to spend an evening with family or friends or schedule a team-building event. In memory of his uncle and in thanks for the support of his aunt, the Denver Escape Room is requesting that patrons make donations in lieu of the normal admission fee to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association – Colorado Chapter.
